Planning a trip to Cyprus? Whether you’re here for the beaches, the history, or just a really good Instagram moment, keep reading my Cyprus Travel Guide for everything you need to know—hidden gems, best travel tips, and how to explore like a local!

If you’ve ever dreamed of standing where Aphrodite supposedly emerged from the sea, exploring ancient ruins, sipping wine in a medieval village, or lounging in a five-star beach resort all in one trip… Cyprus is calling.

This Mediterranean island is where old meets new and where Mamma Mia! vibes mix with modern-day luxury.

Why Cyprus?

In recent years, Cyprus has significantly developed, especially along its southern coast.

Just look at Limassol… property developers have been busy turning it into a Mediterranean playground, with swanky beachfront resorts, luxe apartments, and all the modern perks you didn’t know you needed, all while keeping the island’s natural beauty and history intact… the best of both worlds.

Not gonna lie, during my last visit, I loved it so much, I’m even thinking of investing in property in Cyrpus. Stay tuned. 😉

Cyprus is basically the Mediterranean’s underrated all-star. It’s got:
✅ Stunning beaches (white sand, turquoise water)
✅ Ancient history (think Greek temples, Roman mosaics, and Crusader castles)
✅ Luxury meets authenticity (boutique hotels, private villas, and high-end restaurants, but also charming mountain villages and traditional tavernas)
✅ 300+ days of sunshine (because who wants a rainy vacation?)

Whether you’re sipping cocktails at a beach club, exploring ruins older than Rome, or hiking in the mountains, Cyprus delivers.

Best Time to Visit Cyprus

☀️ Summer (June–September): Peak beach season, but it’s HOT. Like, melt-your-sunscreen hot. Great if you love lively beach bars and don’t mind the heat.

🌸 Spring (April–May) & 🍂 Fall (October–November): The sweet spot. Perfect weather, fewer crowds, and still warm enough for the beach.

❄️ Winter (December–March): Cyprus doesn’t do freezing, but it’s chillier. Great for hiking, exploring villages, or skiing (yes, skiing!) in the Troodos Mountains.

Cyprus’ Cool History

Cyprus sits at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and Africa, which means everyone has tried to claim it at some point. Over the past 10,000 years, it has been shaped by:

🏺 The Ancient Greeks – They brought myths, temples, and the cult of Aphrodite (who was supposedly born here).
🏛️ The Romans – Left behind mosaics, amphitheaters, and incredible ruins in Paphos.
✝️ The Byzantines – Built stunning frescoed churches, many of which are UNESCO-listed.
⚔️ The Crusaders & Venetians – Added castles and fortified cities.
🕌 The Ottomans – Influenced Cypriot food, architecture, and culture.
🇬🇧 The British – Introduced tea-drinking, left-side driving, and some very colonial-era buildings.

With all this history, it’s no wonder why Cyprus is on the UNESCO World Heritage List for its ancient architecture, mosaics, and ancient religions.

Today, Cyprus is split into two parts: The Republic of Cyprus (South, EU member) and The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (North, only recognized by Turkey). Both sides offer amazing experiences, and crossing between them is easy for tourists.

🏨 My Favorite Booking Sites for Hotels & Stays

When I travel, I book with either:

🔹 Booking.com – Largest selection & best deals on luxury & boutique stays.
🔹 Vrbo – Perfect for villas in stunning locations & unique home stays (and IMO, a better alternative to Airbnb for travelers prioritizing entire home rentals and larger groups + often better pricing).

How to Get to & Around Cyprus: Transportation Tips 🚗✈️

Getting to Cyprus

✈️ By Air:

Cyprus’ two main international airports have direct flights from Europe, the Middle East, and limited long-haul connections.

  • Larnaca International Airport (LCA) – Best for most travelers, well-connected. You can book a private car service from Larnarca airport to your hotel. Reserve now, pay later.
  • Paphos International Airport (PFO) – Ideal for travelers heading to the west (Paphos, Limassol, Troodos).

Best Cyprus Flight Deals

🚢 By Sea:

  • Cruises & Ferries: You can get to Cyprus via cruise ships or take a ferry from Greece or Israel.
  • Port cities: Limassol & Larnaca are the main hubs.

Getting Around Cyprus

🚗 Rent a Car (Best Option for Freedom & Exploration)

Booking a rental car in Cyprus is ideal for spontaneous road trips to mountain villages, beaches, and historical sites throughout Cyprus. The roads are well-maintained with major highways connecting key cities.

Just remember, driving is on the left side (British influence).

🚌 Buses (Budget-Friendly but Limited in Rural Areas)

If you don’t want to drive yourself, take one of Cyprus’ intercity buses, which connect to major cities. The downside is that they have limited schedules, especially in rural areas.
Pro Tip: No buses run late at night—plan for taxis or rentals.

🚖 Taxis (Convenient but Pricey)

Available in all cities but not metered, so agree on a fare beforehand!

Pro Tip: Download the Bolt App (Cyprus’ Uber equivalent).

🚲 Biking & Walking (Good for Cities, Not for Long Distances)

Limassol & Nicosia have bike lanes but biking is not ideal for long-distance travel because of the hilly terrain. However, beach promenades are walkable.

Final Thoughts: Why Cyprus Deserves a Spot on Your Travel List

Cyprus is the ultimate mix of luxury, history, and laid-back Mediterranean vibes. It’s got the beaches, the culture, and the kind of sunsets that make you want to extend your trip.

The island’s legendary status as the birthplace of Aphrodite seems fitting — it’s a place that’s easy to fall in love with, and like all great loves, it stays with you long after you have left its shores.
